Students at the School of Design at Northumbria University were again tasked this year with creating new and original consumer products using cork.
Led by Assistant Professor Rickard Whittingham, two students found their inspirations in the local architecture and culture of Tyneside.
In the second of two articles, we look at a unique Stottie stand designed by Libby Hutton and made from cork material to support the Stottie – a round flat bread that has a deep heritage in the Northeast of England.

These Stottie stands are inspired by the shape of the Stottie and also take inspiration from the idea of community and how this involves sharing with others in the context of food.

The Stottie stand can be a centrepiece on the table or any occasion when you are sharing food and conversation with others.
