The attic

This is the first of two reports on home insulation from Italy and Spain where the use of cork granules has been established for many years. The Cork Federation would always recommend taking professional advice in the UK when installing insulation materials and to comply with local building regulations.

Why insulate the attic with cork?

The attic is one of the most critical points of heat loss in a home. Heat naturally tends to rise and, without adequate insulation, can easily escape, thus increasing heating costs.

Blowing in natural cork granules offers an ecological and highly efficient solution. Because cork has low thermal conductivity and a high capacity to accumulate heat, it is the ideal insulating material all the year round.

Blowing is a simple technique that consists of injecting insulating material directly into the empty cavities of the attic, optimising thermal insulation without the need for invasive interventions. The use of natural cork granules for this operation is particularly advantageous, since the material keeps the environment warm in winter and cool in summer, thus ensuring better living comfort and a reduction in energy costs.

An ecological, practical and quick way to improve energy efficiency in a home.

Cork is a surprisingly versatile and innovative material. It is made up of millions of tiny air cells per cubic centimeter, which gives it a very low thermal conductivity . This means that heat (or cold) has a hard time passing through it, making it an exceptional insulator.
